Voltage, conductor, topology, termination, power-supply location, motor side, controls, pockets, and access depend on the selected system.
Specify the shade and motor before wire is installed
Confirm the product, approximate finished size, motor family, power method, control platform, roll direction, and which side receives power. Do not rely on a generic wire placed near each window with the expectation that every motor can use it.
Keep power supplies accessible
Centralized and local power arrangements have different wiring and service needs. Equipment should not be buried behind drywall or sealed where it cannot be inspected or replaced. Confirm ventilation, enclosure, circuit, labeling, and access requirements with the responsible trades and product documentation.
Coordinate pockets, blocking, and finished dimensions
A recessed pocket must fit the finished shade assembly, not only the fabric roll. Fascia or closure details, brackets, tube, motor, wiring bend radius, leveling tolerance, and removal path all need space. Provide adequate structural mounting and keep sprinklers, lighting, speakers, diffusers, and trim from conflicting with the treatment.
Plan controls and integration at the same time
Decide whether the primary controls are remotes, wireless wall controls, wired keypads, an app, schedules, or a whole-home system. Confirm the bridge, processor, network, and equipment-location requirements. Platform compatibility should be verified for the exact motor and interface.
Verify before drywall

- Every cable is labeled and tested
- Power supplies and controls remain accessible
- Pockets, blocking, and mounting surfaces are measured
- Photos capture every concealed route and access point

Final-measure after critical finishes are established
Framing dimensions are not final shade dimensions. Confirm the project's measurement timing after drywall, trim, pockets, flooring, and relevant hardware reach the stage required by the shade company. Ordering too early can turn a clean prewire plan into a poor physical fit.
